Can I get a scholarship?
You may think that scholarships are only for the very best or most unique students
but the truth is that every student applying to a college or university should investigate
and apply for scholarships. While there certainly scholarships that focus on academic
or athletic achievement, financial standing and/ or minority status, some do not
consider these factors at all. Some scholarships are designed to promote particular
vocations and others are still available if a break is taken between high school
and college.
The main lesson is that the only way to lose out in the scholarship game is not
to try. While there is significant effort involved and you should start looking
for scholarships at least a year before the start of your college career it can
pay off in the end with a meaningful contribution to your college financing. Be
sure to spend the time and effort to investigate your scholarship opportunities
- there are many more than you think!
